Traditional Patterns, Contemporary Colours

Property owners and designers are exploring the timeless elegance of a geometric patterned tiled floors but may not wish to use the traditional Victorian colour palette - predominately red, black, buff and brown (sometimes with blue, green and white).

Now, Victorian tile manufacturers and suppliers, such as Original Style, Winklemans and Waxman Ceramics, have expanded their range of classic geometric shapes and sizes to include more contemporary colours, thus further broadening the appeal and suitability of this stunning style of tiled flooring.

Incorporating tones of grey, pink, light green, yellow and more, brings a fresh feeling to any flooring project, whether in a residential or commercial environment. Classic and traditional patterns can be replicated with new shades substituting in situations where perhaps some of the common darker Victorian colours are not as desirable. This means that a geometric floor is no longer solely the preserve of a Victorian building but can be used in any setting, in properties of all ages and types.

The additional colour range gives architects and designers much more scope to include geometric patterns into their clients' projects, adding some extra special flooring possibilities. From a homeowner's perspective, the wider colour palette offers many more opportunities to fit geometric tiled floors, not just traditional Victorian paths, porches and hallways but also for kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor spaces. For the tiler, having a rare and sought-after skill, geometric tiling offers greater income potential, with increased job satisfaction and sense of pride in their work.
